Patient education

Patient resources and education.

Everything we have written to help you understand tooth pain, treatment, recovery, and cost. Start with a topic below.

Mid-Florida Endodontics' patient resource library covers every stage of endodontic care: identifying symptoms, understanding your diagnosis, what to expect during and after treatment, and how insurance and financing work. Each guide is written by our specialist team and organized so you can find answers to the question that brought you here.

Topics covered in this guide

  • Where do I start if I have tooth pain right now?

  • Do I need a referral to see an endodontist at MFE?

  • How is endodontic care different from regular dental care?

  • What should I bring to my first MFE appointment?

Getting care at MFE

Where should I start if my tooth hurts right now?

Start with our symptom guide to understand what your pain might mean, then call your nearest MFE location. If the pain is severe or you have swelling, ask about same-day emergency care. Early attention usually gives the best outcome.

Do I need a referral to see an endodontist?

No referral is required. Many patients come to MFE on a dentist's recommendation, and many call us directly. You are welcome either way, and your nearest location can schedule an evaluation.

What should I bring to my first visit?

Bring your insurance card, a list of any medications, and any recent X-rays or referral notes if you have them. Arriving a few minutes early to complete paperwork helps. We handle the rest, including verifying your benefits.

How do I find the MFE location closest to me?

Use our locations page to see every MFE office across Central Florida and choose the one nearest you. Each location offers the same specialist care. Call that office directly to schedule.

What is endodontics and how is it different from general dentistry?

Endodontics is the dental specialty focused on diagnosing and treating the inside of the tooth, including the pulp (soft tissue) and root canals. Endodontists complete two to three additional years of training beyond dental school and focus exclusively on these procedures. Your general dentist handles overall oral health; an endodontist handles tooth-saving treatment when the inside of the tooth is affected.

How do I know if my situation is urgent?

If you have a tooth that throbs, swelling of the gum or face, pain that wakes you at night, or difficulty swallowing, call any MFE location for same-day care. These symptoms are treatable, and earlier attention almost always leads to a better result.
